SERVICES
Circulation Services
Membership
MLRC membership is open for ALAM’s students and staff only. The membership privileges are not transferable. It is a serious offence for those who are using someone else ID card for any transactions. Please visit our Circulation Counter for registration.

Loan Privileges
General books for a normal loan can be borrowed at the Circulation Counter. Borrowing privileges for the various categories of users are as follows :-
Renewals
MLRC materials which have been borrowed may be renewed online via PULSE if they have not been reserved by another user.
Note: Maximum of renewals are up to 3 times per book only.
Reservations
MLRC users can place reservation for book(s) which is on loan via PULSE
Overdue books & overdue reminders
Books must be returned by the due date stated on the due slip of the book.
MLRC sends overdue reminders through email. It is the members responsibility to ensure their email address supplied is valid and accessible. Non-receipt of email reminders is not an acceptable reason for late returns/renewals as members are required to inform MLRC on changes of email and contact no. Therefore, please ensure that your email address shown in Your Library Account page are up-to-date.
Fines
Fine imposed on borrowers for late return of a book is RM 2.00 per day item.
Lost and Damage
Borrowers will be held responsible for items on loan. If the item is lost, an immediate report should be made to the Librarian to enable appropriate action to be taken. A borrower is allowed to either replace the book lost by purchasing it himself or pay the book cost ( with 6% GST) + the RM 20.00 of service charge. All books replaced must be latest edition. If you need more in-depth help, make an appointment with our librarian for personal research assistance! ICT Services
MLRC provides IT facilities to enable users to access our online catalogue – PULSE, to make use of word-processing and spreadsheet software, and for general internet and e-mail access.
Wireless Networking (WiFi)
Wireless networking is available free of charge (FOC) and can be used at any time during MLRC opening hours.
Internet
Internet surfing is available in MLRC during MLRC opening hours and this service is free of charge.

User Education Services
Library Orientation & Tours
MLRC offers a short orientation session designed to familiarise new students and staff with the library resources, services and facilities. During this 45-minute session, students will be introduced to our library services, facilities, collections and rules & regulations.
Information Skills Session
MLRC also provides hands-on Information Skills session for students upon request of maximum 10 pax. per session. This 1 hour session is designed to equip library users with information awareness and skills such as :-

Understand the nature and extent of the information needed.

Formulate a research strategy to find information about a selected topic.

Find materials in the online catalogue and obtain them for use.

Search library online databases for articles and information.
-
Use search engines and directories to find information on the web.
-
Locate and obtain information regardless of format.
-
Evaluate information sources for accuracy, authority, objectivity, purpose, currency and appropriateness before applying the information.

Use information ethically and understand plagiarism and copyright as applied to the research process.

Read and write bibliography/citations such as APA (American Psychological Association) and MLA (Modern Language Association).




Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The ILL service is available for ALAM staff only - who wishes to borrow books which are available in other PETRONAS Resource Centres which includes PRC, PRC Bangi, PRC Legal, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS's Information Resource Centre, MISC Resource Centre, INSTEP Resource Centre and several other libraries and resource centres within the PETRONAS Group.
